Jews were expelled by oppressive laws, stripped of their property without recourse, or sympathy from the world (unlike Palestinians who have plenty of sympathy and received many times the value of their properly back in the form of unending aid, if only they used that to resettle where they are now)
They spent years living in tents and cinder block cubes as Israel struggled to resettle them. But the struggling Israeli government (Not meaningfully supported by the US government or anyone else, in those early years) manged to educate and integrate them into the evolving Israeli identity.
There was even a period of time when there was a fair amount of discrimination from the 'older' Israelis against the new comers who seen as a bit pathetic. A common human reaction due to instinctive human flaws, we see in many countries facing similar in-pouring of new immigrants.
This last point, while a bit shameful, is also important, Israel was being overwhelmed by the number of new immigrants, who came in much faster than they really where prepared for. So the lies about the Israeli government using false flag terrorist tactics (bombs?) to 'scare Jews to immigrate', while commons fodder for conspiracy boards, is clearly fake. At that time, the Israeli government wanted immigration to slow down

Example of what I mean
The following was posted on Huffington Post, I was replying to someone else post about what they wanted from Israel. My reply was deleted with the whole thread, probably because of some other post in the same thread.

So here's my original. Hope the context makes sense:

So here's my original. Hope the context makes sense:
I know this question is not directed at me, but I also noticed that my past postings tend to be so one sides pro Israel that it may confuse my true stance.
In a heated argument I tend to move to more extreme ‘pro Israel’ but my core stances are the following.
1: Israel should remain secular, democratic with Jewish national holidays, and Hebrew (and Arabic and English) as it main defining character.
2: There should be no ‘chief Rabi’ in Israel. As there no ‘chief Rabi’ in the US. Definitions of who is Jewish should be by consensus of the THREE main streams of Jewish thought with a liberal allowance for personal choice and belief.
3: The Law of Return should be modified to reflect an idea of Israel being the ‘port in the storm’ for REFUGE Jews from active organized persecution. All others including non persecuted Jews should have to go though a nationalization process for citizenship. People coming from places with a standing ‘state of war’ with Israel should have to jump though more hoops because that’s simple security but even for them, there should be a workable path to citizenship.
4: The Conversion process of non Jews needs to be updated. Frankly Jews need to stop allowing the extreme orthodox to define what is Jewish. There is ‘Jewish guilt’ felt by many non orthodox Jews, that the Orthodox are more ‘true Jews’ and an unwillingness to stand and say, “No that rule is foolish and was made by ignorant men in an ignorant time.” Its as bad as if all Christians felt guilt about not being as religious as the Amish.
5: The 67 borders need adjustment, but the Settlements program is a failure. Small adjustments to the 67 make sense, especially since a land bridge will be needed from West Bank to Gaza, but the Old City of Jerusalem should remain under Israeli control, but I think some of the eastern suburbs including some of the settlements be turned over to the Palestinians, so they can have the ‘face saving’ of claiming Arab East Jerusalem as their capital.
6: The settlers left on the east side of the border should be Encouraged to become ‘Palestinian’ citizens with the Palestinians required to take them as part of the agreement, with some 3rd parties watching them to make sure they are treated fairly. Some finical compensation for Palestinians who can document they lost land to the settlers. But such documentation should also take in account Jews who where expelled from Jordan in the 1940’s.
7: The idea that all Jews must be expelled from the future Palestinian state is as distasteful as the expulsion of all Arabs from Israel. (and accepting only Jews who can prove a blood ties to the land is as repulsive.)
8: Lastly, I support J-Street, and think the fighting, name calling, and out right lies, about J-streets mission by right wing Jewsish organization is as ugly as politics can get and very destructive to Israel’s long term health.
What I'm going to blog about
Frankly I already have a web site where I keep art and stories.
http://cosmostories.com
I used 'StumbleUpon' frequently to post opinions on others web sites.
So why would I want a blog?
Well sometime when I comment on a posting on a public forum, the posting is lost into the ether, perhaps what I said was not approved by "the powers that be" or perhaps what I was replying to was what 'crossed the line' so my reply gets sent to the memory hole, along with the offender.
So Here, I'll post copies of some of my longer responces, sometime that may make no sense unless you also see the original subject.
I'll try to include links, but once something falls down the memory hole, well the links may point to nothing.

First a quick Intro.
This is not my first blog.
This is not my first web page.
This is not my first place to find my ideas and rants.
I've been around. I was a geeky nerdy techy kid, long before most other 'geeky nurdy techy' kids had there first Ipad ... or ... laptop ... or ... Mac ... or ... PC ... or ... Amega ... or ... C64 ... or ... Apple II ... or ... TRS80 ... or ... Super Elf ... or ... Altar.
Yep my first 'toy' computer was an Sperry Univac.
Yes I've programmed 360's in assembly.
Yes I've programmed PDP8's in Basic
Yes I've programmed PDP11's in C
Yes I've programmed TI's in Fortran IV
Yes I've programmed Crays in Fortran 7
Yes I've ported original X Windows apps to Convex's and to a Sperry ET10-G
Yes I've written a programming language which others are still using to this day
Yes I know what YACC means.
Yes I can read a sendmail.mx file and gleam meaning.
Yes I worked on things that flew to Mars and other places in space. (Some even worked)
Does any of the above impress?
Well it shouldn't!
It's just from a lifetime of always wanting to see a bit more of tomorrow than I can see today.
What SHOULD impress,
I have two wonderful children.
I have a spectacular wife.
I have two puppies that I let live, even though they take up too much of the bed.
Now that's impressive!
